From school desk to international training

New apprenticeship year starts at Dieffenbacher in Eppingen

On September 4, 2017, 12 apprentices, three students at Cooperative State Universities and two cooperative students at Heilbronn University launched their careers at the Eppingen-based plant and machinery manufacturer Dieffenbacher. The leading manufacturer of press systems and complete production plants for the woodworking and automotive industries is currently training 62 young people. With the Dieffenbacher training program, the company allows young people to develop into skilled workers and specialists in various expert areas such as electronics, machining mechanics, computer science and mechanical engineering.

Collaboration, not competition

Dieffenbacher supports young people starting out in their careers with an introductory week to ensure that the start of their training goes smoothly. For two days, the young people get a feel for the headquarters in Eppingen. In addition to a tour of the company, the agenda features the first training sessions and presentations. Trainees and students receive valuable tips on topics such as occupational safety and workplace organization. At various product training courses, for example, they get to know the heart of Dieffenbacher's wood panel production plants, the CPS+ press. The rest of the week is spent in the team workshop in Althütte in Rems-Murr. The trainees and students are accompanied by the trainers Nicola Bräumer, Matthias Höfle and Hauke Schmidt. In working groups, the young people discuss what they expect from the training and are made aware of the importance of teamwork. The young people learn to rely on each other in confidence-building exercises while orienteering through the nearby forest.

Adventurous practice instead of boring theory

On September 11, the apprentices and students begin training in their respective departments. In addition to imparting expert knowledge in theoretical and practical stages, the Dieffenbacher training program also offers special seminars for the development of soft skills. This includes, for example, a business simulation and the "Presentation Technology" seminar.
As a further key component of the training program, Dieffenbacher offers construction site assignments and internships abroad for all apprentices and students. The company believes experience abroad is a particularly important part of training. In this way, Dieffenbacher promotes independence and self-confidence among its young workers. At the same time, the apprentices and students learn about the global activities of the machinery and plant manufacturer and are given the opportunity to immerse themselves in other working cultures and mentalities. In 2017, 18 talented young people took advantage of this opportunity, from training and studies to working as a student trainee.
