Materials for noise insulation and lightweight construction
The LWRT (LightWeight Reinforced Thermoplastic) material is ideally suited to improving thermal insulation and acoustic absorption properties in the vehicle. The newly developed production process allows light components and components with a large surface area to be manufactured. For this purpose, a fabric mat made from glass fibers and plastic fibers is used as the semifinished product.
Heating in the forced-air oven increases the volume of the LWRT material, thereby producing the typical insulating properties. Once the heated semifinished part has been removed, it is formed within the hydraulic press under low pressure.
Applications
- Underbody covers with large surface area
- Engine covers
- Wheel arch linings
- Interior door trims
