New Approaches to Plant Automation with the Siemens S7-1500

It is probably the most advanced plant for the production of particle boards in the whole of Europe. Following high levels of anticipation among experts, Pfleiderer put its new Dieffenbacher plant into operation at the start of this year at the Neumarkt site in Germany. The wood-based panels manufacturer had already announced its goal of using the new plant to set fresh benchmarks, in particular with regard to energy consumption, efficiency and resource management.

The automation technology deployed by Siemens celebrated its world premiere — the Simatic S7-1500 automation system was used in a large-scale industrial project for the first time worldwide. Together with the TIA Portal (Totally Integrated Automation Portal) engineering tool, the new controller promised enormous potential. Using two videos from Siemens, one from a management perspective and one from a technical perspective, the project partners demonstrate the huge potential of the new automation solution for large industrial plants.

In October 2014, in MDF & Co. magazine, Siemens, Pfeiderer and Dieffenbacher use different perspectives to highlight the successful collaboration involved in this plant investment, which has excellent prospects for the future.

Team-Spirit (Dieffenbacher)

“Like two old friends who always look out for each other.” That is how Bernd Bielfeldt, member of the Business Unit Wood management within the Dieffenbacher Group in Eppingen, describes the relationship between Pfleiderer Holzwerkstoffe GmbH, Neumarkt, and Dieffenbacher…

New Benchmarks for the industry (Pfleiderer)

In Western Europe, it is no longer common for a particle board production line to be set up on a greenfield site. The last wood-based panel production lines were started in 2007 in Baruth/Mark, Germany by Classen (MDF), in 2008 in Rion-des-Landes, France by Egger and in 2011 in Yvetot, France by Linex…

New Approaches to plant control (Siemens)

The new particle board production line by Pfleiderer Holzwerkstoffe GmbH is setting new technological benchmarks. Due to the considerable energy and resource savings, the project was also sponsored by the Bavarian State Ministry for Economy and Media, Energy and Technology as part of the “Bayinvent” funded project. One of the key components of this plant is the new Siemens automation system, which promises a particularly long lifespan…
