Dieffenbacher supplies first continuous MDF press line to Colombia
German machine builder Dieffenbacher has been commissioned to supply a continuous press line by the Colombian company Tablemac MDF S.A.S. The CPS 265 - 16,4 press (8 ft wide and 16,4 m long) allows an annual production output of 130,000 m³ and is being integrated into a used production plant at the Barbosa site. The first panel is planned for June 2011, with acceptance scheduled for October 2011. By ordering Dieffenbacher's state-of-the-art production line, Tablemac is responding to an increasing demand for high-quality wood panels.
The Barbosa site is located centrally between areas with high forestry yields, the industrial center of Medellín and the port of Berrio.
Tablemac was founded in 1988 and is now a leading manufacturer of wood-material panels and furniture in Colombia. In 2009, the company posted total sales of 41 million dollars. The group operates two particle¬board lines with a total annual output of 110,000 m³ in Manizales and Yamural. Tablemac uses two further panel production lines with a total annual capacity of 10,800 m³ in its own furniture factory RTA. Tablemac aims to increase furniture sales in Colombia dramatically by offering high-quality wood-material panels.
The Colombian market currently has an annual MDF demand of 100,000 m³. A sustained economic upturn has resulted in a large development potential for higher-quality wood panels. This development in Colombia is also confirmed by the current Doing Business Report 2010 published by the International Finance Corporation (IFC). This international comparison of constraints for business activities in a total of 183 national economies puts Colombia in 37th position. In the last seven years, Colombia has been in the leading group of countries open to reform on no fewer than four occasions.
