voestalpine Stahl GmbH has commissioned DIEFFENBACHER Energy GmbH, formed at the beginning of 2023 from the acquisition of the former BERTSCHenergy, to supply the steam boiler for its new power plant unit “BLOCK 08” at the company’s headquarters in Linz. Assembly of the plant will begin in the fall of 2024, with a trial run scheduled to start in May 2026.
The new BLOCK 08 unit within voestalpine’s existing power plant will produce a maximum live steam output of 166 t/h with a live steam temperature of 535 °C and a live steam pressure of 120 bar. The new DIEFFENBACHER boiler plant will convert gases produced during steel production into electricity, district heat and process steam for voestalpine’s own needs.
DIEFFENBACHER Energy is supplying voestalpine with a gas-fired natural circulation boiler and auxiliary equipment, a combustion air and flue gas recirculation system, flue gas ducts and flue gas cleaning and the exhaust stack. The boiler house steel structure, operating platforms, feedwater system, electrical equipment and the instrumentation and control system are also part of the DIEFFENBACHER scope of supply.
